In many institutions if not all you would find ethnical if not regional associations; for instance Kisii students association, Bondo students association, Kiambu students club.. not to exhaust. This framework invites ethnic and tribal leadership in those organizations which apparently brings about division in academic institution.

In a press interview Egerton university students leader Mr. Wang’ombe expressed fears over the rising number of regional and ethnical clubs.” Regional and tribal clubs bring a lot of division during university politics, with different tribes supporting different candidates and segregation of some politicians in some zones. To avoid a replica of what we say in 2007 universities should put off tribal differences and focus on a common goal as equal Kenyans.” Wangombe said.

Moi, Nairobi, Kenyatta, Masinde Muliro and JKUAT universities not to be left aside have lots of such archaic clubs that act as a burr to vision 2030. During the 2007 mishap many students were unable to report back to their respective universities some citing the regions to be unsafe for the tribe one comes from. Prof. Richard.K. Mibey in a response to what he termed as rampant requests of university transfers from Moi university said that such requests should not be approved since they would base universities to tribal cocoons.

Thus, in a civilized society tribe should not be an issue otherwise it should be considered as a default. All Kenyans are equal regardless of the ethnic background. One Mr.Gachie said that in Kenya there are only two tribes, the poor and the rich.

It is only wise to remember the shells, sculls, and ashes that were left after the post poll aftermath and make us more responsible to avoid any action or utter that may take us back there. The Internally displaced persons still are fresh in our minds and others still in camps and none of them would prefer another experience.

So,  my advice to students in universities is to shun such inhumane clubs so to say, and adopt up-to-date mode of socialization. Actually it is the only way to vision 2030,otherwise we are heading  no where.
